MIRI: Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced a RM1.2 million allocation to two schools and a hawkers association tonight.

He said that the allocations were not for the election but to help after the matter was brought up by BN Pujut candidate Hii King Chiong.

Zahid tonight announced that RM500,000 each will be given to Sekolah Kebangsaan Pujut Corner and Sekolah Menengah Pei Min in Miri for infrastructure upgrading and development .

Aid will also be given to the Miri Saberkas Night Market and Hawkers Association to upgrade their tents and roofing.

“This is not for the election; this is to help people.

“Maybe the other side will accuse me of many things. But we want a people’s representative who can ask for allocations. We want the wakil rakyat to be from BN,” he told the crowd at Saberkas Night Market here today.

Zahid also announced another RM500,000 to Sekolah Menengah Riam, but with the condition that Senadin BN candidate Lee Kim Shin be retained in his seat.

He spoke about his fondness for Sarawak, having come there right after becoming deputy prime minister.

He also wanted Hii to remind him when the project in Saberkas Night Market was completed as he wished to officiate it himself.

“Allocations are like a water retention pond. Don’t choose a leader who only has a water tap head (kepala paip) but nothing else.

“Hii King Chiong is not just a water tap head, but a water pipe, connected to the pond itself,” he said referring to BN, which can allocate money for development projects.

Zahid, the acting Umno deputy president, also promised that he would make sure that Miri is given projects if BN proved its might in the election come May 7.

He also requested for Rural and Regional Development Minister Ismail Sabri to “come down to Miri” with him to visit the people there.

“I’m very sure Ismail Sabri has some allocations. I’m sure he will also come together with me.

“We don’t play with money, okay. Projects will benefit you, the people and the voters here.”

Miri has three constituencies – Pujut, Senadin and Piasau. BN won in Senadin but lost the other two to the Opposition in the last election.
