Nazri launches Fort to Fort Trail bike tour of unique heritage
KUCHING: The Ministry of Tourism Sarawak (MOTS) launched its new cycling product, the ‘Fort to Fort Trail’, at the Kuching Waterfront yesterday.
Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz was present to launch the cycling package, which aims to generate public awareness as well as to protect forts as a valuable and unique piece of Sarawak heritage.
The full package of a guarded bike tour will saw participants on a tour with a leader, support vehicle, meal and accommodation ranging from longhouses to upmarket resorts.
Participants throughout the seven-day six-night tour will also be served authentic local cuisine throughout the 146km of riding which will include stops at Pantu, Banting, Lingga, Sri Aman, Betong, Skrang, Batang Ai
and will start and end in Kuching.
An estimated more than 20 forts were built during the White Rajah’s 105 years of rule but only 12 have been gazetted to date.
The Forts Trail cycling package aims at providing a platform for the local community to participate in the tourism business.
With the key regions such as Kuching, Sri Aman, Betong and Batang Ai, local Malay villages and Iban longhouses will be part of the stops on the tour.
