Police shoot dead three robbery suspects in Highland Towers
PETALING JAYA: Police today shot dead three suspected robbers hiding in the abandoned Highland Towers in Ampang.
Selangor CID chief Deputy Commissioner Mohd Adnan Abdullah told a press conference at the crime scene that the deceased, along with three others who fled, are believed to have been involved in 26 robbery cases in the Klang Valley.
Police carried out the ambush at 5am.
“We proceeded to arrest them and while some ran, others tried to attack the officers with a parang, a sickle and an air pistol. So to defend themselves, the officers fired a few shots which hit three of the suspects.
“We then called the ambulance and about 6.30am, they were pronounced dead. Three others had fled the scene and ran towards the hill behind the Towers,” said Mohd Adnan.
He added that a team comprising officers from the General Operations Force and K9 unit, assisted by the Petaling Jaya police, had been deployed to comb the surrounding area to capture the remaining suspects.
Adnan also told reporters that the Ampang Jaya police had last month arrested a man who was believed to be a member of this group which, he said, had been active for at least two years.
He said this group had committed a string of robberies that had caused losses amounting to RM545,900.
At the scene, police discovered two bags containing among others, gloves, face masks, a crowbar, and green cables which Adnan said were used to tie up victims.
Police have yet to establish the nationality of the suspects as no documents were found on them. The bodies of the dead have been sent to the Ampang Hospital for post-mortem.
