Syamsudin Noor Airport closed for runway maintenance
BANJARBARU, South Kalimantan: Syamsudin Noor Airport closed for two hours due to the asphalt surface on the runway sloughed Monday afternoon, AntaranewsKalsel reported.
Manager of Syamsudin Noor Airport Operations and Engineering Trubus Suharsono in Banjarbaru said the airport closing starting at 16:40 until 19:40.
“The closure of the airport planned three hours, but the flaking asphalt repaired more quickly so that closure lasted only two hours,” he said.
He said the airport reopened at 18:32 after filling the runway at the center point of 1,000 meters on the runway 10 finished.
According to him, the closure of airports to avoid things undesirable because the point of asphalt peeled off just below the aircraft engines.
“Asphalt flaked 60 x 60 cm and depth of 7 cm. Its size is small, but the position right under the engine so it’s very dangerous,” he said.

While six flights scheduled to land at Syamsudin Noor also had to be postponed, namely from Jakarta and Surabaya, wholly Lion Air flights.
“Once operational airport reopened, aircraft delayed flights could be flown, including the arrival of aircraft can be done,” he said.
