Ramasamy invited to Zakir Naik’s lecture
PETALING JAYA: The organisers of Zakir Naik’s lecture series today invited Penang’s Deputy Chief Minister II, P Ramasamy, to a talk by the international preacher at the Bukit Jalil National Hockey Stadium this Saturday.
Their spokesman, Firdaus Wong Wai Hung, said they were prepared to sponsor air tickets for Ramasamy and his wife if he accepted the invitation.
“We would like to invite Prof P Ramasamy to attend Dr Zakir Naik’s lecture at the Bukit Jalil National Hockey Stadium as our VIP guest,” Wong told FMT. “In fact we can also sponsor return air tickets for him and his wife.”
He also said the organisers accepted Ramasamy’s apology for referring to Dr Zakir as “Satan” on his Facebook page.
“As Muslims, we have no problems accepting Prof P Ramasamy’s apology,” he said. “We only suggest that all assemblymen, regardless of which political party they are from, be smarter in choosing their words, be they spoken or written.”
Ramasamy issued the apology after screenshots of his Facebook post went viral. The post has since been edited to remove the offending word.
Dr Zakir made headlines recently after several groups expressed displeasure with the contents of his lectures. They urged the government to bar him from speaking in the country, saying this would help maintain peace and harmony.
