SAR team warned of crocodiles in Batang Lupar

SRI AMAN: Security forces involved in the SAR mission in Batang Lupar have been reminded to be careful of crocodiles in the area, although none has been spotted in the location so far.

Sarawak deputy police commissioner Datuk Abdul Aziz Yusof said the river stretching from Lingga to Pulau Seduku, Batang Lupar is known to be crocodile-infested.

Pulau Seduku is a crocodile sanctuary in Sarawak and swamps near Taman Negara Maludam is also well known for crocodiles.

Abdul Aziz said security forces involved in the SAR were equipped with weapons for any emergency.

“The SAR has entered the third day. (They) have not come across any incident but dangers are common in any SAR operation. It serves as a reminder to be cautious for their own safety,” he told reporters at the SAR operations centre in Lingga, about 49km from here.

He added that the SAR operation was currently focused on areas from Lingga to Pulau Seduku with an increased number of personnel.

“We have a team of divers on standby but due to the murky waters, they are encountering difficulties. However, they will continue to be on standby if required,” he said. — Bernama
