Douglas Uggah is minister for non-Islamic affairs
KOTA SAMARAHAN: Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Douglas Uggah Embas has been appointed state minister for non-Islamic affairs.
He said the appointment was announced by Chief Minister Adenan Satem at the state legislative assembly meeting here last week.
Uggah mentioned the appointment when addressing a dinner in conjunction with the recent Gawai Dayak Festival organised by the Parish Council of St Francis Church at the church hall here last night.
“This is a very important official channel established for the various non-Islamic religious bodies to interact with the state government administered by Barisan Nasional (BN).
“It will be a forum where any issue can be deliberated, with a view to strengthen religious harmony,” he said.
Uggah said his appointment was also in line with Adenan’s vision for a united, harmonious and prosperous Sarawak.
“I am confident this new responsibility will provide an effective bridge between the state BN government and the non-Islamic faiths.
“It again reflects the fact that Adenan is a chief minister for all. This is also his new inclusiveness policy, in addition to the 53 achievements he had announced before the recent May 8 state election,” he said.
