Najib’s aide: Muhyiddin a lame duck, so Mahathir turned to Anwar
KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s presidency of the newly registered Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) was regarded as meaningless by Prime Minister’s aide, in the wake of the reconciliation between Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
But Najib Razak’s press secretary Datuk Seri Tengku said, he could not blame the former premier for this last desperate move.
“What other option did he have, after the credibility of the President of his new party was destroyed by the Nika Gee court statutory declaration,” said Sariffuddin.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak continued to attack his former deputy, this time through his aide.
Sariffuddin referred to a statutory declaration of a former public prosecutor over a divorce case which was settled in court last week.
“It (the statutory declaration) proved that Tan Sri Muhyiddin was for years committing infidelity with another man’s wife.
“This rendered Tan Sri Muhyiddin a lame duck president overnight, ineffective even as a caretaker for Tun Mahathir’s son Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir,” the statement said.
Both leaders shook hands, their first meeting 18 years after Anwar’s dramatic sacking which sparked a political crisis and reformasi movement.
Commenting on Dr Mahathir’s meeting with Anwar, Tengku Sariffuddin said that the move was further evidence of the former Prime Minister’s desperation
Sariffuddin said Muhyiddin now would have to play second fiddle to the PKR leader, describing him as a puppet president in the new party.
“But on top of this humiliation, Tan Sri Muhyiddin’s political future is now dependent on Datuk Seri Anwar, as it will be he that says yes or no to Tun Mahathir’s pleadings.
“So Muhyiddin is now subservient to Anwar,” he claimed.
Tengku Sariffuddin said that Muhyiddin was now number two in Mahathir’s party and therefore merely acting as a ‘puppet president having to obey all the commands of a known control freak’.
