DAP MAN LODGES POLICE REPORT AGAINST NAJIB: HOW DARE YOU CALL US ANTI-MALAY & ANTI-ISLAM?

DAP has lodged a police report calling for Prime Minister Najib Razak to be investigated for calling the opposition component anti-Malay and anti-Islam.

The report, lodged by Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng at the Dang Wangi police district headquarters today, called for Najib to be investigated under Section 298A of the Penal Code, which forbids public comments that disturb public tranquility.

Najib, during the just concluded Umno general assembly, had attacked former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, saying that he was a tool of DAP.

“They say they want to fight for Malays and Islam, but they are in a pact and are being used as a tool by DAP, which is clearly anti-Malay and (anti-)Islam,” Najib said on Thursday.

During the Umno assembly, Najib also attacked DAP’s constitution by claiming that it wanted a secular nation.

“DAP’s constitution does not mention Islam as the religion of the federation, as it wants to turn Malaysia into a secular nation,” Najib was quoted as saying on Thursday.

Lim said this was “malicious falsehood”.

“This is very serious coming out of the prime minister’s mouth. That is why I lodged the police report.  I want the police to investigate Najib under all relevant acts, including Section 298A of the Penal Code,” he said.

Section 298A forbids comments or actions that cause disunity or prejudices on grounds of religion. The maximum sentence for a convicted offender is five years’ jail.

Lim added that Barisan Nasional has a dozen component parties, many of which did not mention Islam in their party constitutions.

With Lim today were Kg Tunku assemblyman Lau Weng Sang and DAP committee member Ronnie Liu.

The group also lodged another police report against Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos for threatening DAP member Zaid Ibrahim over the latter’s comments on Twitter about the Selangor sultan.

Jamal and his supporters burned cut-outs of the former law minister at Umno’s 71st general assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.

Jamal, who leads the Red Shirts movement, also used a sledgehammer to smash a cut-out of Zahid, telling reporters he would “hammer his head if no action is taken against him”.

“This needs no explanation,” Lim said today. “This is clearly an offence under criminal intimidation.”

Lau urged the police to charge Jamal and explain why the Umno leader, despite having been arrested many times before, has never been charged.

“Is there any preferential treatment given to him?”

Liu said Zaid has the party’s support.

“We are in solidarity with him. We regret the media reports that were not accurate about what he said,” Liu said.

“I personally think Zaid Ibrahim said what he wanted to say as a Malaysian. He has no intention to run down anybody or any authority. He just wanted to tell the truth and he wanted peace and fairness in this country.”
