Five home-made bombs found in Damansara condo
PETALING JAYA: Five home-made bombs were found in a rented 17-floor apartment in the Damansara Perdana neigbourhood here which was evacuated by police this morning.
Two local men who rented the apartment have been detained by police, media reports said.
The bomb squad detonated the devices at a local quarry and gave the all-clear at noon for the 200 residents of the condominium building to return home.
Police also recovered drugs and items believed to be used to make the explosives, said Petaling Jaya police chief Asst Commissioner Mohd Zani Che Din.
“We found the improvised explosive devices were also equipped with remote detonators. The IEDs were made using materials such as PVC pipes and wires,” he told reporters at the scene.
Mohd Zani Che Din said the bombs were located in an “inner area” of the apartment of the 23-storey tower block.
Police had said earlier that they had received a telephoned bomb threat early this morning and carried out a raid on the building at about 8.30am.
