‘Muhyiddin and Shafie baiting Umno to fire them’
PETALING JAYA: Umno’s Muhyiddin Yassin and Shafie Apdal are baiting the Umno disciplinary board by taking part in the Save Malaysia campaign which is aimed at forcing Umno president and prime minister Najib Razak to step down, says a political analyst.
Dr Ramlah Adam of Universiti Malaysia Perlis said that the two Umno politicians were intentionally going on the anti-Najib Save Malaysia campaign to bait Umno into expelling them and make Najib look bad.
“Muhyiddin and Shafie are veterans, they know what will happen if they criticise the president, so their continuing to do so means that they do want to be officially cast out of the party,” Ramlah told FMT.
Ramlah said, however, that the bait set by Muhyiddin and Shafie would fail, saying that Najib was politically mature and would not act blindly to punish them.
“Najib’s political way is clever. He’s not going to be hasty, he’ll leave it be and settle the matter democratically,” she said.
Ramlah also went on to say that Muhyiddin’s continuous revelations about 1Malaysia Development Bhd were unnecessary because the Public Accounts Committee had already shown that Najib was not guilty.
“1MDB and PAC have themselves said that the case is closed, and that Najib is not guilty,” Ramlah said.
