Football’s Paul Mony dies at 71
KUALA LUMPUR: The death of former Asian Football Confederation general secretary, Paul Mony Samuel, is a great loss for Malaysian sports, says Olympic Council of Malaysia president Tunku Imran Tuanku Ja’afar.
“I think it is a sad loss for sports, especially football. Paul dedicated his life to sports. He is an example of a person who has the passion, commitment and ability and it is a huge loss for football and sports in Malaysia,” Tunku Imran said.
Paul, a former general secretary of the Football Association of Malaysia and the Asean Football Federation, died at the age of 71, at about 8.30pm on Saturday. He had been afflicted with Parkinson’s disease.
He was the longest serving general secretary of the FAM, holding the post from 1984 to 2000, and held the same post at the AFC from 2007 to 2009, and the AFF from 2010 to 2013.
The wake service will be held at 8pm today at his home at No 4, Jalan SS3/94, Petaling Jaya. while the funeral is on Monday.
