Hadi: Win or lose, PAS will not be at a disadvantage
KUALA LUMPUR: Win or lose, PAS’s participation in both the Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar by-elections will not be a wasted effort, says PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.
Speaking to reporters outside Parliament today, Hadi said PAS would not back down from contesting the two parliamentary seats even if other Opposition parties decided to field their own candidates there.
“PAS will not be disadvantaged whether we win or lose. If we win, good. If we lose, we will get back our capital.”
Hadi also said the party would not stop either its splinter group Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) or former coalition partner PKR from contesting for the seats which were left vacant after the tragic deaths of its incumbents.
“It’s up to them, we can’t force them.”
His comments came following rumours of possible three-cornered fights for the two seats which both Opposition parties PAS and Amanah are eyeing.
The by-elections, set to take place on June 18, came after the demise of Deputy Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Noriah Kasnon and Kuala Kangsar Member of Parliament Wan Muhammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad in a tragic helicopter crash on May 5.
