Ku Nan: Umno will likely let Shafie Apdal off the hook
Party secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor (Ku Nan) said this was simply because Shafie never aligned himself with Opposition politicians as the other two had.
“There are some problems with him, but some leeway (can be given),” Adnan told reporters at Parliament lobby today, alluding to Umno vice president Shafie, who has emerged as one of Prime Minister Najib Razak’s critics from within the party.
Ku Nan had earlier revealed that he would propose for the sacking of Muhyiddin and Mukhriz during the next Umno supreme council meeting, expected to take place at the end of the month.
Muhyiddin was earlier suspended as the party’s deputy president while Mukhriz has resigned as menteri besar of Kedah.
The disciplinary board, Ku Nan said, had already completed the report on the duo and would table it at the supreme council meeting to decide the duo’s fate.
“To me, they should be sacked.”
Both Muhyiddin and Mukhriz signed the Citizens’ Declaration, part of the Save Malaysia movement that is seeking for the prime minister’s resignation and for institutional reforms in the country. Others who participated were prominent Opposition politicians like Lim Kit Siang and Azmin Ali.
Shafie has denied signing the declaration.
