Watson rejects apology, lodges report on dad's name jibe
Former national sprinter Watson Nyambek has rejected an apology from TV3 and Primeworks Studios, after a presenter made fun of his father's name during the 'Sukan Tak Sentral' television programme.
He told this to Primeworks CEO Ahmad Izham Omar at a meeting over the remarks made by the presenter, who pronounced "Nyambek" name to sound like a bleating goat.
"I cannot say anything more on this because I am really mad and disappointed as I cannot accept the actions made by the TV host.
"I hope that this will not happen again in the near future to people in this peaceful country.
"Today I do not accept this apology and maybe someday if I am more at peace (with it), then I will accept it," Borneo Post quoted him as saying during the meeting.
The meeting, also attended by Sibuti MP Ahmad Lai, was held after Watson lodged a police report over the incident, urging action against those behind the programme.
Sarawak CID chief Dev Kumar said the police have classified the case under Section 504 of the Penal Code for intentional insult to provoke a breach of peace, and will quiz the show's presenter and producer, The Star reported.
The offender faces a maximum two-year jail term or a fine or both if convicted.
Primeworks apologised for the remarks yesterday and assured that it will not happen again.
