AIR SHOCKER – MALINDO FLIGHT THE NEXT TO ESCAPE TRAGEDY: GEARBOX FRACTURE, ENGINE SEIZURE FORCES M’SIAN PLANE TO DIVERT TO DELHI AIRPORT

A MALINDO Airlines jetliner en route from Lahore to Kuala Lumpur was forced to divert to Delhi on Sunday, following an in-flight engine failure.

Flight OD132, a Boeing 737-900 capable of carrying up to 189 passengers, left Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore, for Kuala Lumpur International Airport at approximately 9.50pm. It was about 150nm southeast of Delhi and flying at cruising altitude of 35,000ft when the crew reported the right-hand engine had failed.

The aircraft diverted to Delhi and landed safely 10 minutes later.

A post-flight inspection found that the accessory gearbox in the CFM56 engine had fractured and leaked oil, leading to the engine seizing.
