PAC deputy adopt 'wait-and-see' approach on PAS' 1MDB roundtable

The Kepong MP Dr Tan Seng Giaw has taken a wait-and-see approach to PAS' plan to invite him to a roundtable discussion on 1MDB.
He said he has read about it in the media but has not received anything in writing. He said that he was concerned that the matter was being politicised.
Apart from PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, he said, many others have been invited to speak on 1MDB too in a bid to exploit the issue.
"My position is clear: Public funds must be transparent and accountable. For anybody who deals with it, that's how it is. Nothing more.
"People of various interests including politicians want to politicise - that is the main thing - with half-truths and innuendos. It's the fact of life," the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) deputy chairperson told Malaysiakini when contacted today.

When asked if he is willing to attend the discussion, he replied, "I won't know. I would have to see what situation it is. I don't want to be exploited and be made a fool of, for something that is neither here nor there.
"It is public fund; use it properly. Full stop."
PAS party organ Harakah reported yesterday that the party would organise a roundtable discussion on 1MDB on Aug 7. The PAC was among the bodies that had investigated the scandal.
The PAC's report, among others, said that the auditor-general was unable to confirm US$2.173 in payments that were meant for 1MDB's business partner Aabar.

Other prominent figures to be invited include former 1MDB chairperson Bakke Salleh, former Selangor menteri besar Khalid Ibrahim and economist Jomo Kwame Sundaram, according to the report quoting Tuan Ibrahim.
The report came after Tuan Ibrahim was slammed by Umno supreme council member Mohd Puad Zakarshi for claiming that Malaysia’s refusal to investigate the scandal was what promoted foreign countries to act.
In Puad's rebuttal to Tuan Ibrahim, he pointed to PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's statement decrying the foreign investigations as "foreign intervention" that would be detrimental to Malaysia.- Mkini
