Made in Napoli

I’m in Piazza Garibaldi, just in front of the train station, watching a small crowd of fans waiting for a Mimmo Dany to arrive. I noticed a young woman who is there with her parents. She nearly cries when she sees her idol getting out of the car. A week later I’m on the train to Giugliano, a small town in the outskirt of Naples. Rosa and her parents pick me up at the station. In the car, Mimmo Dany’s record is playing. “We have only Mimmo Dany in the car.” Rosa tells me.

We arrive at the house, and Daisy, a small fat dog, welcomes us barking loudly. Just after we enter, Cristina, Rosa’s mother, makes me a coffee, the main ritual in Naples. She puts sugar inside the cup and then throws three spoonfuls on the floor where the dog is waiting. “Here you go sweetie.” Read more...
