SHAFIE FIGHTS BACK: IT’S PURE ‘POLITICAL ASSASSINATION’, ACCUSES NAJIB OF ‘FABRICATING’ THEFTS AT RURAL MINISTRY

KOTA KINABALU— Parti Warisan Sabah president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal today accused rivals of malice for linking him to the corruption investigation against his party’s vice president and two others last night.

Describing this as a political attack on him, Shafie stressed that he has no links to the companies under investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

He further said he was ready to assist the probe if needed.

“I can facilitate investigations and tell them what they want to know, but don’t fabricate anything.

“But don’t fabricate anything. I’m seeing allegations that those companies are Shafie’s proxies; don’t tell people that all the companies and money belong to me,” he said to reporters when met at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport here today.

Yesterday, MACC detained Warisan vice president and businessman Peter Anthony, 46, along with a former deputy secretary from the Rural and Regional Development Ministry and a construction company owner.

The three are being investigated over the alleged misappropriation of RM180 million in ministry funds.

Shafie was rural and regional development minister until his sacking in 2015.

He said that he has not been called by MACC, but questioned the integrity of the investigation.

“When I was in the government, everything was very good, there was no problem. My ministry was performing well, this is fact.

“Now that I’m out, I did something wrong. How many years was I in government; why no wrong then? You tell me,” he said.

He said he was not against the investigation if it was in public interest, but continued to suggest a political witch hunt.
