If Jabatan Agama could clarify whose permission to wear tudung

‘Siti Hasmah: My husband forbids me from wearing tudung’ is the most read headline in Malaysiakini at the present moment.

“I don’t wear tudung until today,” the news portal reports Tun M’s wife Siti Hasmah as saying.

“My husband forbids me from wearing tudung. Before one wears tudung, she must ask for her husband’s permission,” she told a press conference at a symposium ‘Siti Hasmah: Wanita pencorak masa depan negara’ in Bukit Damansara.

That’s real interesting, what Siti Hasmah is telling the country.

Going by her logic that a female Muslim requires a husband’s permission first before donning the tudung, what about the millions of unmarried but tudung-wearing schoolgirls in Malaysia then?
