KUCHING: Sarawak DAP claims the party and its ally, PKR, may head for three-cornered fights if the seat allocation agreement is not adhered to.

It’s chairman, Chong Chien Jien, said there were three factions from PKR which did not agree with what had been set by their leaders, including PKR Deputy President Azmin Ali, who had successfully sorted out matters beforehand.

“If PKR does not stick to its word, then there will be three-cornered fights.

“Earlier, there were two factions in PKR, one allied to the president and another with the deputy.

“Negotiations were difficult, but it was Azmin Ali who sorted it out to get both factions to agree.

“But a third faction has emerged, which does not agree with the seat allocations,” he told a press conference today.

“DAP will hold to our agreement and we hope PKR will respect what was agreed to.”

Chong also announced that DAP will contest 29 seats, 15 of which are Dayak-majority seats.

“Of the 29, 15 seats are for Dayaks,13 for Chinese and 1 for Malays.”

The Malay candidate is believed to be Chong’s special aide Abdul Aziz Isa.

“The Dayak seats include Bidayuh, Iban and Orang Ulu.

“Candidates will be announced on April 20,” Chong said.

The Bandar Kuching MP also insisted that DAP would not negotiate with PAS for any seats despite PKR talking to the Islamist party behind its back.

Meanwhile, at another press conference, Sarawak PKR chairman Baru Bian said state leaders cannot agree with the consensus reached at the national level.

“We have indicated to our national leaders that we are unable to accept their decision as far as the allocation of seats is concerned.

“We are henceforth taking back the mandate given and will make a final decision on the seats we are contesting,” he said during a press conference at state PKR headquarters today

Baru agreed with Chong that if the matter were not resolved immediately, both parties would head for three-cornered fights with BN candidates.

When asked later about what Chong had said about not negotiating with PAS, Baru declined to comment.

“I have no comment on that,” he told FMT.
