Muhyiddin Shafie Mukhriz unworthy of Umno

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno leaders who have opposed party president Najib Razak are unworthy of representing the party in the next general election, says Mohd Ali Rustam.

Alluding to suspended Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin, Vice-President Shafie Apdal and former Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir, Ali said the trio had betrayed the party’s struggle through their accusations against Najib, who is also the prime minister.

“If they don’t support Umno and the prime minister, it isn’t right for them to represent Umno,” the former Malacca chief minister told reporters at the Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Bhd (PUNB) office headquarters today.

Ali also said the trio should not sit in Umno’s Supreme Council if they kept questioning the party’s leadership and disagreeing with the council’s decisions.

“This has always been the party’s principle. If you disagree, say so in the Supreme Council. When the decision has been made, hold on to it.”

Ali said if members agreed to a decision made by the council and then said otherwise later on, this was tantamount to questioning Umno, the prime minister and all the decisions made.

“It’s not right that we remain in the same group then,” the former Umno vice-president said.

Muhyiddin, Shafie and Mukhriz are among Najib’s fiercest critics, especially in matters revolving around controversies linked to 1MDB and the RM2.6 billion donation.
