Two Ibans named as Amanah reps in Swak polls
KUCHING: Amanah today announced its 13 candidates for the Sarawak election, including two non-Muslim candidates for the Sebuyau and Gedong seats.
At the launching of its election machinery at the Grand Continental Hotel here, the party’s number two, Salahuddin Ayub, revealed its 13 candidates who will contest in mostly-Malay majority areas.
The Amanah hopefuls are Mohammad Fidzuan Zaidi (Demak Laut), Nani Sahari (Samariang), Abang Abdul Halil Naili (Muara Tuang), Othman Mustapha (Sadong Jaya), Andrew Jain (Sebuyau), Rapelson Richard Hamit (Gedong), Andri Zulkarnaen Hamden ( Beting Maro), Jini Sahini (Kabong), Sufian Julaihi (Kuala Rejang), Fadillah Sabali (Semop), Ibrahim Bayau (Daro), Kiprawi Sabali (Jemoreng) and Nurzaiti Hamdan (Balingian).
This will be the first time the PAS-splinter party is taking part in an election after its formation last year.
The two non-Muslim Iban candidates are Andrew and Rapelson. Andrew, an activist, has in the past participated in anti-logging and anti-land grab activities, while Rapelson is an activist with the Dayak Iban Association (Sadia).
Amanah can expect an especially tough battle in Muara Tuang, Semop and Jemoreng where the mighty PBB will field its strongmen, Idris Buang, Abdullah Saidol and former Perlis mufti Dr Juanda Jaya.
