40 medical practitioners eligible for election to 9 council seats


KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 40 medical practitioners have been nominated and accepted to stand for election to fill in vacancies for nine council members representing West Malaysia in the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) by August.
Health Malaysia director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, who is also MMC president, said as provided under Section 3(1) of the Medical Act 1971, and the Medical Regulation 1974, an election was required to be held for registered medical practitioners to elect nine new council members from among medical practitioners residing in West Malaysia.
The 40, who have been nominated and accepted to stand for this election are dully registered medical practitioners who are Malaysian citizens, possess an annual practising certificate (APC) for 2015 or 2016, and reside/state their principal address of practice in West Malaysia.
In a statement here yesterday, Dr Noor Hisham said the MMC had announced on Jan 9 this year that come August, there would be vacancies for nine council members representing West Malaysia.
He said envelopes containing ballot papers and relevant instructions for the election were being posted to all registered medical practitioners who were eligible.
He advised registered medical practitioners to check their ballot papers at their principal address of practice and to vote wisely.
“Qualified registered medical practitioners are allowed to elect at least one candidate and a maximum of nine candidates.
Ballot papers should reach the MMC president, Ground Floor, Block B, Ministry of Health Malaysia, Jalan Cenderasari, 50590 Kuala Lumpur, either by hand or post and no later than 4pm on June 17. — Bernama
