NRD nabs security guard for using fake identity card

PUTRAJAYA: A security guard was detained for using a fake identity card at Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) building at midnight in “Ops ID” conducted by the National Registration Department (NRD).

NRD director-general Datuk Seri Sulaiman Keling said the security guard,44, claimed that he came from Sandakan, Sabah and began working at the premises one month ago.

“We found that the photograph in the security guard’s identity card has been changed and thus inconsistent with the record in NRD.

“The security guard admitted that the identity card was bought from an agent in Labuan one month ago at RM600,” he said in statement, here yesterday.

Further investigation revealed the security guard was from Zamboanga, the Philippines and entered this country illegally via Sandakan, Sabah.

The security guard was detained under Regulation 25(1)(e) of the National Registration Regulation 1990 (Amendment 2007) for using a fake identity card which provides for jail not more three years or fine not more RM20,000 or both.

He was then brought to Putrajaya NRD for documentation process and further investigation.

Sulaiman said they will continue to inspect and monitor security guards to ensure that they possess genuine and valid identification documents.

The NRD operation which began at 11.30pm was conducted following information received from members of the public.— Bernama
