KUCHING: In conjunction with the nationwide celebration of Malaysia’s Engineer’s Week, an engineer’s run will be held Sept 11 here.

The IEM Engineer’s Run is jointly organised by Institute of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Young Engineers Section (YES) Sarawak branch and VivaCity Megamall.

The run will start from the mall at 6am.

Various branches of IEM YES in the country will also be holding the run, including Headquarters in Kuala Lumpur on Aug 12.

Organising chairman Johnny Tan Joo Kok in a press statement said IEM Engineer’s Run is also a charity run.

He said last year IEM YES (Sarawak Branch) raised RM7,500 from the run which was donated to the Kidney Association of Sarawak.

“This year, we are targeting 2,500 runners, and all the proceeds will be channelled to the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS).

“We urge especially engineering companies to generously sponsor the event and the members of the public to step forward to support this charitable event,” he said, adding that they will organise more activities to give back to the community.

The engineer’s run will be divided into 10km for Engineers (men and women), 10km run for the public (men and women), and 5km fun runs.

Participants who finish the run within the cut-off time (1.5 hours for the 5km and 2 hours for 10km) will receive finisher medals besides other prizes.

They also get the chance to win exclusive lucky draws during the closing and prize-giving ceremony at 7.30am which is expected to be attended by Kuching City South mayor Dato James Chan Khay Syn.

The registration fee per person is RM55 for the 5km fun run, and RM60 for the 10km competitive runs.

Entry forms can be obtained at Revolution Run Borneo – Green Heights, IEM YES Sarawak Facebook page and IEM Sarawak Branch office at Ultimate Professional Centre in Bukit Mata, Kuching (Opposite Hills Shopping Mall).

Meanwhile, IEM Sarawak Branch conveys its gratitude to their partners and sponsors of the event, namely, City Council Partner – MBKS, Venue and Sponsor – VivaCity Megamall, Official Gym Partner – Phoenix Gym, Official Isotonic Partner – Revive, Gold Sponsor – Sarawak Energy Berhad, and Silver Sponsor – Alpha Survey Consultant.

It also thanks City Joggers Club and Revolution Run Co. for supporting the event.
