PM: Good governance our priority
PETALING JAYA: Good governance remains a priority for the Government – evident in the appointment of Muhammad Ibrahim as the new Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia, Prime Minister Najib Razak said yesterday.
According to Najib, Muhammad’s appointment has been well received by the market, and would assure continued independence, stewardship and good governance of the central bank.
Najib was quoted by The Star Online speaking to a group of 28 foreign fund managers at a private breakfast session at Marlborough House in London, yesterday.
He also cited the political stability in the country as a drawing factor for investor confidence.
Najib said Malaysia was on track to achieve a GDP growth of 4.5 percent in 2016 and was committed to delivering to the market, a strong, inclusive, and sustainable long-term growth.
He added the Government would continue to spend close to RM30 billion on mega infrastructure project over the next five to six years, including on a semi-underground MRT project, urban transportation in the Klang Valley, oil and gas projects in Pengerang, as well as a high speed rail project between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.
