Why didn’t cops do anything about Huckle, asks Ikhlas
PETALING JAYA: Small and Medium Scale Entrepreneurs Association of Malaysia (Ikhlas) President Mohd Ridzuan Abdullah questioned why local police could not track down British paedophile Richard Huckle while he was committing his crimes in the country.
Huckle was given 22 life sentences by a court in London yesterday for sexually violating 23 children and babies in Malaysia as well as children in Cambodia for almost a decade.
Speaking at a press conference at Sunway Nexis here today, Ridzuan said the fact that it was foreign police who had managed to track Huckle down had tarnished the local police’s image.
“How could this have happened? Why is it that the local police could not track him down? What were they doing?” he asked.
“It’s obvious that the local police often let information pass them by and the Minister of Home Affairs (Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) needs to look into this matter to ensure that this kind of conduct does not happen again.”
Ridzuan added that if the Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar could not explain how Malaysia could have missed Richard Huckle and allowed him to carry out his crimes then he should tender his resignation.
“If he can’t answer this then I think it’s better he just resign and let someone take his place.”
