‘Datuk’ dies of heart attack after discovering burglary
PETALING JAYA: A senior citizen died after discovering his house in Bukit Pantai, Kuala Lumpur had been burgled last night.
New Straits Times Online reported that the victim, property businessman Abdul Haleem Shah Salamat Shah, 72, returned home with his wife after visiting a relative at a nearby hospital about 9.30pm.
They found their three-storey bungalow in Lorong Bukit Pantai 4, had been broken into.
Brickfields Police Chief ACP Sharul Othman Mansor said the couple also heard noises inside the house, causing them to raise the alarm.
At that point, three men fled the house.
When the couple were checking their losses inside the house later, Abdul Haleem, a “Datuk”, suffered breathing difficulties and passed out.
A team of medical personnel from University Malaya Medical Centre was dispatched to the scene, but Abdul Haleem was pronounced dead from a heart attack about 10pm.
Initial investigations revealed that the burglars had broken into the house through the kitchen window after disabling the alarm system.
The suspects also carted away a CCTV decoder from the house. Cash and valuables estimated around RM60,000 were stolen in the incident.
