‘American Horror Story’ season six to centre on ‘The Lost Colony’ of Roanoke?
LOS ANGELES, Aug 3 — It looks like the new season of American Horror Story will tackle one of the oldest American myths — or so says TMZ that released on Monday pictures purportedly taken from the FX anthology series’ set.
The most telling image was one that showed a tree with the word “CROATOAN” etched into the trunk.
This appears to indicate that the plot for season six will centre on the mystery of the Roanoke Colony.
In the late 16th century, over 100 colonists disappeared from a North Carolina settlement overnight, leaving behind a cryptic message carved into a fence that surrounded the village.
Their disappearance gave rise to the nickname “The Lost Colony.”
There has been no conclusive evidence as to what happened to the colonists.
Some have theorised that the group fled to Croatoan Island off the coast of the colony, while others have speculated that a supernatural event was responsible. Cue Ryan Murphy.
Another set photo released by TMZ featured a colonial-era farmhouse, and sharp-eyed fans have pointed out that this appears to be in line with last week’s Snapchat teaser that showed a remote farmhouse with black smoke billowing from its chimney.
However, as with all things American Horror Story, there’s probably more than meets the eye.
FX CEO John Landgraf told The Huffington Post that the newest season would utilise flashbacks to different time periods as a storytelling device.
So could the other fan theory about season six being linked to the first season, Murder House, be correct too?
You’ll just have to wait until September 14 when the first episode airs in the US.
