IN THE NAME OF ISLAM BUT BEHIND THE SCENES, TOP MOTHER & SON TEAM WERE ROBBING YAPEIM BLIND
PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested another suspect in the Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation (Yapeim) embezzlement case.
The former deputy president of the government-linked foundation was arrested after she arrived at the MACC headquarters for questioning at 1pm Thursday.
The 69-year-old is also the mother of the 47-year-old senior director who has been under MACC remand since Wednesday over the same case.
MACC director of investigations Datuk Simi Abdul Ghani confirmed the arrest and said the woman is being investigated under Section 409 of the Penal Code for criminal breach of trust.
The funds approved by the Yapeim board were supposedly for an aid programme for the poor and needy during the Rompin by-election campaign in 2015.
Investigations revealed that no one received the aid.
Both suspects are believed to have made up names of aid recipients by using non-existent identity card information as well as names of deceased individuals.
