RESIGN, JOHARI IF YOU CANNOT ‘CO-OPERATE’ WITH NAJIB: BN MP TELLS MINISTER TO MAKE PUBLIC ALLEGED LETTER ON ‘FAKE’ AABAR’S OWNERSHIP STATUS

A BN lawmaker has also called on Finance Minister II Johari Abdul Ghani to make public the letter that proves the British Virgin Island (BVI)-registered Aabar belongs to Abu Dhabi’s International Petroleum Investment Corporation (IPIC).

Marcus Mojigoh said the move would put an end to the speculation by opposition politicians, who are harping on the issue.

“If the letter is not classified under the Official Secrets Act (OSA), if he is allowed by the law to do it (reveal the document), why not ?” the Putatan MP told Malaysiakini today.

Yesterday, Malaysiakini, in an exclusive report, quoted Johari as stating there is a letter dated Aug 11, 2016, from the Registrar of Corporate Affairs of the British Virgin Islands confirming that Aabar BVI is an IPIC subsidiary.

The disclosure led a source familiar with the matter to question why the Malaysian team chose to opt for a settlement, instead of letting the arbitration process between 1MDB and IPIC run its course, when it had such strong evidence.

Following this, PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli urged Johari to publish the letter while DAP lawmaker Tony Pua argued that it made no sense for the Malaysian team to concede to a whopping settlement of US$3.5 billion, or more than RM15 billion based on today’s exchange rates, if it had the letter.

‘Ministers who can’t work as a team should quit’

Meanwhile, Marcus, who is also a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) member, said Johari should not have contradicted Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak on this matter.

“There should be consultation and collaboration between Johari and the prime minister,” he said.

Speaking in general, Marcus said there were instances when ministers made statements that were inconsistent with the prime minister, giving the impression that the government is not working as a team.

“I am sorry to say this, but ministers went on to open their big mouths without consulting the prime minister. There should be teamwork instead of trying to be a hero. Sometimes, they even make racially sensitive remarks on their Facebook pages.

“Some even ridicule the prime minister’s statement. Perhaps it is because of ego, or they want to make themselves popular. This is not the way to do it,” he added.

Marcus said if members of the executive are not willing to cooperate with the leadership, then it would be best for them to step down.

“I think they should step down and create their own leadership. I am talking about what I am seeing in this country, not Johari alone,” he added.
