ANWAR’S SELFISHNESS TO BLAME IF PAKATAN LOSES GE14: IN SAD, TIME-WARPED MONKEY SHOW, PAKATAN LEADERS HOLD UP ‘ANWAR THE 7TH PM’ PLACARDS

It is clear for most Pakatan Harapan leaders that when it comes to the choice of the country’s next prime minister, PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim is the number one choice.

At the PKR national congress held in Shah Alam today, some 1,000 PKR delegates and top PKR leaders held placards bearing the words ‘Anwar as 7th PM’.

Standing at the front row of the stage, both PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and her deputy Azmin Ali as well as the party’s vice-presidents held up the placards.

DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) president Mohamad Sabu also joined in the act.

However, it was visible that both Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad and president Muhyiddin Yassin did not hold up the placards.

Mahathir was engrossed with his mobile phone at the time, either taking a photograph or a video clip of the scene of the PKR delegates holding the placards.

Muhyiddin meanwhile smiled and clapped his hands at the show of placards but did not participate.

The choice of Anwar as PM has been Harapan’s stance since the coalition’s inception.

However, the emergence of Bersatu in the opposition front has put Anwar’s candidacy into question, as the Umno offshoot has voiced preference for either Mahathir or Muhyiddin to be the next premier.

Mahathir however has said the matter should not be discussed at the present moment, so as not to become a point of contention within the coalition.

Jail disqualifies Anwar

Anwar is currently serving a five-year jail term, and would therefore be disqualified from elections.

Although he is scheduled to be released in 2020, he will still be barred from contesting in elections for a further five years after release.

The opposition has been pushing for Anwar to be given a royal pardon, which would allow him to contest in elections.

PKR Youth yesterday mooted Wan Azizah to serve as interim prime minister, pending her husband’s release.
