1MDB has ‘everything’ to do with S’wak, says Ramkarpal

KUCHING: The allegations of corruption at 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) has “everything” to do with the upcoming Sarawak election, says Ramkarpal Singh of DAP, rebutting a statement by the state’s chief minister (CM) recently that the financial controversy had nothing to do with his people or the election.

“1MDB is the epitome of corruption, it reflects a corrupt government or an alleged corrupt government,” Ramkarpal said to FMT when met after his speech at a DAP ceramah here last night.

Ramkarpal reminded the state’s CM Adenan Satem that the 1MDB scandal was definitely relevant to the upcoming 11th Sarawak election.

“I think he (Adenan) couldn’t be more wrong. 1MDB has everything to do with the Sarawak election.

“It reflects alleged wrongdoing on the part of our leaders which the state government is subservient to.

“So it’s wrong to say 1MDB has nothing to do with Sarawak. 1MDB has everything to do with the state government,” he said in response to a call by Adenan that Opposition politicians debate local, not national issues such as 1MDB as it was irrelevant to the state election.

Ramkarpal also condemned the entry ban imposed on his brother, Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo, slamming the move as being completely unnecessary.

“The decision not to allow him in (to Sarawak) is to be condemned.”

He said that it was unprecedented for such a high number of Opposition members to be barred from the state, as it was the first time this had happened.

“By not allowing them to enter under such false pretexts, it is certainly a sign of weakness on the part of the current state government.”
