PETALING JAYA: The father of a Malaysian university student has rushed off to Taiwan after learning his son, who was missing for two months, had been found but is suffering from amnesia now.

Law Tong Boon, 66, a contractor from Cheras was overjoyed and relieved his son, Wai Siong, 35, who went missing from the Yunlin University of Science and Technology on Feb 23, was finally found.

The Star Online was told by Law’s brother, Lau Tong Liong, 60, that university authorities called Tuesday night informing the family that Wai Siong had been found.

The two brothers had earlier gone to Taiwan in search of Wai Siong but had come back without him.
“He (Wai Siong) is not talking much to anyone or the media. The doctors said he has no physical injuries but was likely affected by a traumatic experience that has caused his memory loss,” Lau explained.

Lau also said his brother was likely to be with his son in Taiwan for the next few weeks while he recuperated.

“My brother may be there for the next few weeks and will see if his son wants to continue his studies or return home,” he said.

Lau thanked the Taiwanese Government for helping locate Wai Siong as well as the Malaysian Chamber of Commerce chairman James Lau and Special Envoy to Taiwan Tiong King Sing, who he said were instrumental in helping the family when the tragedy struck.

It is learnt Wai Siong disappeared after leaving his dormitory in the early hours of Feb 23 on a motorcycle. A massive search began and police in Taitung’s Guanshan Township found the student two months later sleeping on a street without any documentation on his person and without any recollection of how he came to be there.
