Rafizi under three-day remand for OSA leaks
PUTRAJAYA: Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli will be remanded for three days to facilitate investigations into allegedly leaking classified documents.
“Three days,” said Rafizi to reporters, as he was escorted by police out from the chambers of Magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasnim Wan Ab Rahman.
His lawyer R Sivarasa said Rafizi would be detained until this Friday. “He will be taken to the Jinjang lock-up centre.”
“After the remand order expires he will either be released on bail or face charges in court.”
Rafizi who is also PKR Secretary-General was detained on Tuesday outside Parliament, shortly after he stepped out, on the grounds that his assistance was needed on investigations into the “wrongful dissemination of official secrets.”
Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said Rafizi would be investigated under Section 8 of the Official Secrets Act for “wrongful communication of official secrets.”
Last month Rafizi exposed a document said to be part of an unreleased Auditor-General’s Report.
The lawmaker claimed the document showed a link between 1Malaysia Development Berhad and delays in the Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT) making gratuity payments to its members.
LTAT chairman Mohd Anwar Mohd Nor, however denied Rafizi’s claims, saying they were defamatory in nature and made with the bad intent of tarnishing the institution’s good name. He also disclosed that LTAT has filed a suit against Rafizi.
