Ikea museum set to open in Sweden
The Ikea Museum will house a permanent exhibition divided into three sections: "Our Roots," "Our Story" and "Your Story." The first section focuses on the company's roots and the story of its founder, Ingvar Kamprad, whose ambition was to sell furniture and home accessories with stylish, functional designs at accessible prices. The second section presents the ideas, solutions, successes and failures encountered by Ikea since the first store opened in 1958. Finally, the "Your Stories" section explores the different ways Ikea products are used in people's homes, including iconic models like the Billy bookcase and the Klippan sofa.
The museum also has a temporary exhibition space. Its first show will be an installation called "IKEAtemporary," exploring life in and around the kitchen of the future. Ikea collaborated with designers, architects and design students on five projects that put household life at the center of the kitchen. "IKEAtemporary" was previously exhibited at the 2015 Milan Furniture Fair.
Visitors can also enjoy a restaurant, a shop, as well as programs and workshops on the themes of entrepreneurship, technology and design, history and social sciences.
