No gossip! BN, PAS hug it out in Chinese fishing village (VIDEO)
SABAK BERNAM, June 18 — Barisan Nasional (BN) and PAS candidates for Sungai Besar bumped into each other today while trying to sway votes from the Chinese community in a fisherman neighbourhood here and showed their close friendship beyond politics.
Initially, the BN candidate Budiman Mohd Zohdi and PAS Dr Rani Osman who arrived around the same time greeted each other with warm hugs with the latter calling Budiman his “good friend” and the former calling the PAS assemblyman his “doctor”.
“This is my doctor. When I have fever [in the state assembly], he gives me medicine,” Budiman said as they posed for pictures together with even Dr Rani imitating the Umno lawmakers signature campaign hand sign.
Both Budiman and Dr Rani are Selangor state assemblyman representing Sungai Panjang and Meru seats respectively.
The duo went on to tour the polling centre located at the Balai Raya Bagan Sungai Besar, before both of them looked to be whispering something and looking amused.
Upon exiting, Budiman told reporters not to make assumptions about the duo having a friendly banter in front of everyone in the ethnic Chinese dominated township.
“Jangan gossip, jangan gossip (Don’t gossip, don’t gossip),” Budiman told the awaiting press jokingly.

The two went on to continue their clowning while posing in another picture session where Dr Rani joked with the photographers, asking, “See who is taller?”
The much younger Budiman went on to bend his knees in order to match the small-statured Dr Rani’s height.
The Islamist party leader later told reporters that Budiman and time go some time back with their friendship budding from the time spent in the state assembly.
“We have been friends. We always talk to each other. I’m friendly with a few Umno leaders, we have breakfast and lunch together,” he said adding that they even “listen to each other” at times on matters.
Separately, Dr Rani commenting on the Chinese support he has, is optimistic that PAS has done enough to convince the race with actions like giving out Mandarin language pamphlets and visiting every almost every home.
“I’ve been to Sekinchan where the majority of the Chinese are and the response has been good.
“Everyday, we started distributing flyers to Chinese voters and then every night, there are three ceramah. Leaflets in Mandarin are also given out,” he said.
The Sungai Besar federal constituency has 42,836 voters comprising 22,227 Malays votes, 13,142 Chinese, and 820 Indians with 98 from other races, according to statistics from the Election Commission.
The three-corned fight for Sungai Besar involves Amanah’s Azhar Shukur, BN’s Budiman and PAS’ Dr Rani to fill the seat vacated by incumbent Datuk Noriah Kasnon who perished in a helicopter crash.
