Wahid Omar, the Uber driver now arriving
PETALING JAYA: “5 star rating for YB Senator Dato Sri!” These were the words of a very satisfied Uber passenger who posted about his once-in-a-lifetime experience yesterday of having an Uber driver who turned out to be Abdul Wahid Omar., former minister in the Prime Minister’s Department
The Uber customer, Firdaus Fadzil, posted on Facebook about his lucky day, saying that Abdul Wahid had picked him up in a brand new Proton Perdana.
“Uber my way to office by probably one of the most successful corporate and economic maestros with his new Perdana,” Firdaus posted, with his location checked in at the Multimedia and Communications Ministry in Putrajaya yesterday.
The post was well-received by various Facebook users, most of whom praised Abdul Wahid for his “humble actions” and that it was a “rare” moment.
NST Online reported that Abdul Wahid apparently signed up to become and Uber driver “to try to feel the pulse of the public”.
Abdul Wahid is said to be using a loaned new Perdana for the ride-share service as his personal car is 10 years old and would not qualify under Uber’s policy of only using cars not more than eight years old.
NST Online said he had ferried eight passengers so far.
In a follow-up comment to his posting, Firdaus said he was surprised when Abdul Wahid called out his name upon arrival.
“I went wow, he knows my name? This experience only cost me RM30. Very happy Uber customer,” Firdaus said.
