Wan Junaidi said that he was glad that the other Asean leaders have agreed to implement the Roadmap on Asean Cooperation towards Transboundary Haze Pollution Control with Means of Implementation in a meeting which was held here this morning.

“We adopted the roadmap to overcome haze by 2020. That is one concession that I appreciated. All ministers and Asean representatives have agreed with the adoption and have accepted this roadmap,” he said in a press conference after the meeting.

“The AMS (Asean states members) pledged to remain vigilant and continuously monitor and step up their haze preventive efforts... the Ministers underlined the need for AMS to place priority and commitment to resolve the haze problem within the expected targets and timelines.”

When asked about Indonesia’s part in helping to deal with forest fires in its country, Wan Junaidi told reporters that he believed 3,000 Indonesian military personnel had been deployed to monitor vulnerable areas in the case of forest fires this year.

Earlier today, deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi urged fellow Asean members to start focusing back on key areas such as technical cooperation to solve the haze issue in the region.
