PKR sets up website to handle complaints from students on varsity intakes

PKR strategic director Sim Tze Tzin said students could also submit their complaints and appeals via the HEAP portal after they had submitted their formal appeals to the Ministry of Higher Education. — File picPETALING JAYA, Aug 11 — PKR has set up a web portal to handle complaints from students who did not get or failed to get their preferred course choices in the recent public university intake announcements.

The Higher Education Advisory Portal (HEAP) will act as an extra measure where students can submit their complaints and appeals after they had submitted their formal appeals to the Ministry of Higher Education through UPUOnline.

PKR strategic director Sim Tze Tzin said that the students only need to fill up the complaint forms at HEAP’s website, and the party and its lawmakers would pursue the matter with the authorities to further help with their appeals.

“Once we receive complaints from students, we will collect all the data for analysis. The closing date for sending complaints to us is August 22,” he said.

The UPUOnline appeal window also closes on August 22.

Sim also noted that the amount of intakes for public universities decreased to its lowest in the past four years this year- at 39,862 places offered.

Sim said that the reduced intake is suspected to be connected to budget cuts for public universities under the 2016 federal budget, for which the allocation was cut by 16.48 percent to only RM 7.31 billion this year.
