DAP proposes Sept 10 party re-election at meeting with ROS

DAP has proposed to hold the party's leadership re-election on Sept 10, while the Registry of Societies (ROS) want to iron out a few a details on the party.
This is according to DAP vice-president Teresa Kok, who had a 90-minute meeting with Registry of Societies (ROS) director-general Mohammad Razin Abdullah this morning.
"We told ROS that we want to hold the party's re-election as soon as possible - on Sept 10. But the (ROS) officer said they want to verify certain things," Kok told Malaysiakini when met outside the ROS headquarters in Putrajaya.
The details that ROS need to verify include the party delegates list and the records of two DAP branches.
"We will go back and furnish the records, we will also furnish the list - with delegates who have left the party and those who have died.
"The director-general also said he needs to discuss the matter with his officers," said Kok, the Seputeh MP.
She added that the party plans to hold the re-election in Shah Alam, but it is not "confirmed as the party is yet to get the green light from ROS."
Meanwhile, DAP organising secretary Anthony Loke described the meeting as positive.
"They (ROS) have no objection to us having a re-election on Sept 10, but it is subject to verification on a few things," Loke said.
"This is the first time we have met the current director-general. The meeting went well, at least this is a positive meeting," added Loke.
DAP first held its election for the 2013-2016 term of the CEC on Dec 15, 2012.
However, there were concerns over the legitimacy of the new leadership election due to an excel sheet error, prompting the DAP to hold a re-election on Sept 29, 2013.
On July 7, almost four years after the re-election, the ROS announced that the repeat polls was also invalid.

The ROS claimed that there were qualified delegates who were not allowed to vote, as well as those who were not qualified to vote.
The DAP denied this, claiming that ROS' decision was based on "fake news" but said it will still hold another re-election to safeguard the party's legality.
However, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng had said that the party also intends to sue the ROS over the decision. - Mkini
