Restaurant in China Under Fire For Giving Bigger Discounts To Busty Women

A Chinese restaurant in Zhejiang Province is getting some heavy criticism after offering big discounts to women who have bigger chests.

Residents strolling at a mall in Hangzhou can’t help but notice that something is off with Trendy Shrimp’s sales tactic.

The Chinese restaurant has a controversial advertisement that features a number of anime girls drawn in a variety of bust sizes, facing sideways. Trendy Shrimp’s advertisement offers huge discounts for girls which vary based on their chest size. The ad’s slogan even reads, “The whole city is looking for BREASTS.”

According to BBC, Trendy Shrimp manager Lan Shenggang revealed that their marketing strategy was a success, mentioning that their customer numbers “rose by about 20%.”

While some think the advertisement might lead some girls to shame, Lan explained that “some of the girls we met were very proud, they had nothing to hide.” The Trendy Shrimp manager even urged customers to discuss the discounts with their waitresses instead of their male staff, so that those eligible can “avoid embarrassment.”

However, not everyone is thrilled with the Chinese restaurant’s marketing tactic as numerous critics stormed Trendy Shrimp. One complaint insisted that the ad was “discriminatory towards women” and that it was considered as “vulgar advertising.” While the controversial advertisement was first spotted on August 1, it has since been taken down by Trendy Shrimp.

Although, it’s not just Chinese restaurants that are known for coming up with unusual discount practices at their establishments. According to Fortune, Italian restaurateur, Antonio Ferrari, is offering a “polite children discount.” Families with kids are eligible to receive a 5% discount for having the little ones behave and appear “mild mannered” while dining inside the restaurant.
