PKR takes first swing at PAS candidate for Seri Setia
SERI SETIA POLLS | Dr Halimah Ali has been criticised for remaining on the board on a Selangor government agency despite being an opposition candidate in the Seri Setia by-election.
According to PKR Youth assistant secretary Syed Badli Shah Syed Osman, Halimah should step down from the Selangor Public Library Board member to show her integrity.
"The board is under the state government controlled by Pakatan Harapan. How can a board member of a government agency oppose the government by being an opposition election candidate?
"She should resign from the board if she wants to oppose the state government," he said in a statement today.
Syed Badli Shah also urged the chairperson of the Selangor Public Library Board, outgoing PKR Youth chief and once Seri Setia assemblyperson Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, to remove Halimah.
According to the board's website, Halimah and Nik Nazmi were among five lawmakers that were appointed to the 15-member board for the 2017-2020 term.
The other three are Lee Kee Hiong (Kuala Kubu Baru state assemblyperson), Rajiv Rishyakaran (Bukit Gasing) and Dr Idris Ahmad (Ijok).
At the time, Halimah was the Selat Klang assemblyperson. Her efforts to seek a third term during the May 9 election were unsuccessful.
The former state cabinet member is trying to make her comeback through the Seri Setia by-election, and will face PKR's Halimey Abu Bakar, who spent the past decade as a Petaling Jaya City Council member.
This marks the first time that PKR and PAS are engaged in a head-to-head contest.
The by-election will be held on Sept 8. -Mkini
