BEIJING: State-owned China Communications Construction Company Ltd (CCCC) and its subsidiary, China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd, (CHEC), are interested in bidding for the Malaysia-Singapore High-Speed Rail (HSR) project.

 CHEC Marketing Department Deputy Manager Ding Wen said details such as how to complete, implement and connect the project between the two countries are currently being discussed. 

He said as international contractors, CCCC and CHEC were very keen to partake in the HSR project and were closely monitoring developments. 

"We will form a team comprising qualified bankers, consultant firms and investors to cooperate and bid for this project," he told a group of Southeast Asian journalists who are on a seven-day media trip to Beijing, Tianjian, Southern Suzhou and Quanzhou. 

Recently, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced that a memorandum of understanding was expected to be signed in the middle of the year with Singapore to facilitate the HSR project. 

This had sparked great attention among infrastructure construction players including from China. 

On CCCC's business strategy in the ASEAN region, General Manager, Corporate Culture Department, Yao Yanmin said the next stage for the group's business development was to draw up a masterplan to connect different regions. 

He said such a plan would require higher level of cooperation from different parties and hoped for closer collaboration in bringing up the concept. 

"Negotiations and discussions will take some time but is not a difficult task. "The challenging part is to launch a project connecting the regions and to understand that each region is undergoing different stages of development," he said.
