MIRI: Miri City Council (MCC) is hoping its Green Ride event to be held on May 22 will be able to attract more than 500 cyclists.

Organising chairman councillor Ernest Goh said the event is jointly organised with Junior Chamber International (JCI) Lutong.

“The event is actually our annual event in conjunction with Miri May Fest and Miri City Day celebration.

“Based on previous experience, the response was good with an average of 400 to 500 entries for the event. Hopefully this year we will be able to get more entries,” he stated at a press conference on the Green Ride event at MCC yesterday.

On the venue, Goh said it will be held at Marina Bay Miri.

In conjunction with that, he said all roads to Marina Bay Miri will be closed to traffic from 6am until 11am.

On the participants, he expected cyclists from Bintulu and Brunei Darussalam as well as members of Masterpiece Cycling Club of Miri to join the others for the ride.

To make the Green Ride a truly green event, he said there will be a Car Free Day Campaign on that day.

“Members of public who are not joining the green ride can come on that day to join the various side events such as aerobic, zumba, jogging and many others.”

Some 1,000 goodies will be given away to registered members of the public on a first-come first-served basis.

Those keen to join the event can register on the spot during the Green Ride event.
