MCMC investigates three falsified news credited to Bernama

HULU TERENGGANU: The Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is in the midst of investigating three falsified news reports published and credited to the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama).

Deputy Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Jailani Johari said the investigation was being carried out after the MCMC received official complaints from the news agency regarding the issue.

“Bernama has become a target because is a credible news agency and in any case, Bernama is the fastest and most accurate in the dissemination of information,” he told reporters after opening the Hulu Terengganu branch of Imam and Bilal Association’s 9th general meeting here yesterday.

On March 11, Terengganu Bernama Bureau chief Zalina Maizan Ngah lodged a police report regarding a falsified news headlined ‘Rosli Sedia Jadi Penggerak Puteri Umno Terengganu’, which was credited to Bernama.

She lodged the second report on April 20 over another falsified news titled ‘PAS Terengganu Siap Sedia Hadapi Pilihan Raya Negeri’ and another report on May 4, over the news titled ‘UMNO Terengganu Berdepan Laluan Sukar Hadapi Pilihan Raya-Veteran’, which were also credited to Bernama.

Meantime, Jailani said the MCMC had detained the person who allegedly made a defamatory remark on Facebook against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in relation to the recent helicopter crash in Sarawak. — Bernama
