DAP promises to spring back in S’wak
MIRI: “DAP will come back,” says DAP’s Ting Tiong Choon after the dismal performance by the party in northern Sarawak.
Ting won in Pujut where he was involved in a four-cornered fight with Hii King Chiong (BN), Jofri Jaraiee (PAS) and Fong Pau Teck (independent).
The party lost Piasau and failed to wrest Senadin from BN.
“We certainly are going to review the results. Maybe we are not doing well enough in certain areas that turn away some of our core supporters,” he said, while citing the “Adenan factor” as playing a huge role in the election outcome.
On his victory in Pujut, Ting thanked the voters for putting their trust in him.
“As an Adun (state assemblyman), I will make sure Adenan keeps his promises.
“At least people in Pujut know that money and politics are not a good mix,” he said, referring to the BN direct candidate (Hii), who is also a successful businessman.
Meanwhile, DAP candidate for Senadin Dr Bob Baru apologised to supporters if there were any shortcomings.
“I don’t feel sad. Don’t feel sad. We still believe in our principles and what we want to achieve for a better country.
“If I won, it was just another platform to serve the people. I will continue to fight with DAP,” he said.
He also thanked all the party volunteers, especially from West Malaysia, who had come to help throughout the campaign period.
