Fifth body found after Sundaran, Ahmad Sobri named
PETALING JAYA: Search teams have found a fifth body from the crash of a helicopter in Sarawak on Thursday, while three victims have been named.
Sarawak police commissioner Muhammad Sabtu Osman has confirmed the third victim as Ahmad Sobri Harun, bodyguard to Sungai Besar MP Noriah Kasnon, whose body was found on Thursday and buried early this morning.
Earlier today, the second victim was named by the prime minister as Sundaran Annamalai, secretary-general of the plantation industries ministry.
He was with Noriah, the deputy minister, and four others on board the Hornbill Skyways AS350 helicopter which crashed near the Batang Lupar river en route from Betong to Kuching.
The police chief said in Kuching Ahmad Sobri’s body was identified from the police authorisation card found on him.
A fourth body yet to be identified was found at 3.26pm and flown to the police contingent headquarters, while the fifth body was reported to have been found 2km from the search-and-rescue operations centre in Lingga.
Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said identification of Sundaram’s body, found near the site of debris from the crashed helicopter, was based on fingerprint analysis and from personal effects found with the body.
Najib and his deputy Ahmad Zahid Hamidi were present at the hospital’s mortuary when the bodies were brought in for post-mortem examination.
One other person is still missing. Those not yet identified are Noriah’s husband Asmuni Abdullah; Kuala Kangsar MP and Malaysian Palm Oil Board chairman Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad; and the pilot, Captain Rudolf Rex Ragas.
