DPM to ask education ministry to look into proposed Teachers Protection Act
BAGAN DATOH, Aug 6 — Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will ask the education ministry to scrutinise details into the formulation of the newly-proposed Teachers Protection Act to protect educators in today’s ever-challenging world.
“I will ask the education ministry to look into the motion of the Act in detail before it is brought to the Cabinet,” he said in his winding-up speech at the Bagan Datoh Umno Delegates Meeting 2016 here today.
Ahmad Zahid is also home minister.
The meeting, attended by 477 delegates was officiated by Umno Vice-President Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, who is also defence minister. Also present was Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.
The motion for the formulation of the Act was approved after it was proposed by Wanita Umno delegate, Zalilawati Majidah, which among others was aimed at protecting teachers from being attacked, threatened and intimidated by students and parents in carrying out their duties.
According to her, the formulation of the Act was also to provide protection and defence to the teachers, should they be involved in any eventuality while performing official or unofficial duties, be they in or outside the school compound. — Bernama
